Forestry TEP Project

The Forestry Thematic Exploitation Platform (Forestry TEP) has been developed in a project commissioned by the European Space Agency (ESA). The project was established in March 2015, as one of multiple TEPs, to facilitate more effective use of Copernicus and other data to support forest ecosystem monitoring and sustainable forest management.

In May 2017, the work in investigation, design, implementation and testing is for the most part complete. The platform is currently undergoing a six-month pre-operations phase, where new users are welcomed to the platform for limited access without costs. Smooth transition to operational services is targeted to follow the current pre-operations phase.

The project partners currently operating the platform are:

  • VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd: coordination, user management and communication, pilots
  • CGI IT UK: technical design and implementation of the platform
  • Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) (UK): cloud computing environment, data access
  • Spacebel (BE): sustainability analysis and planning
  • Arbonaut (FI): value adding service development
